Police Say Missing Mother, Daughter Murdered

Bentonville police believe a mother and daughter missing since June were murdered, according to court documents filed Thursday.

Christina Bishop, 40, and her mother, Louise Bishop, 81, were last seen June 18.

Police arrested Christina Bishop’s son, Nicholas J. Johansen, in November on charges he lied to police when questioned about the women. On Thursday, prosecutors formally charged Johansen with hindering apprehension or prosecution, a class B felony punishable with a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years.

The criminal information filed against Johansen, 18, of Garfield accuses him of providing false information and purposely lying to police regarding a murder investigation.

Benton County Prosecutor Van Stone said he couldn’t comment on the case.
