Disc golfers brave cold for Ice Bowl

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette/WILLIAM MOORE Bundled up for sub-freezing temperatures, Doug Duff of Tulsa makes his putt on the 18th hole during the North Shore Ice Bowl Saturday, January 9, 2009 at the North Shore Disc Golf Course near Lake Fayetteville in Fayetteville. The bowl, which was organized by the Fayetteville Disc Golf Association and run through the Professional Disc Golf Association, raised money for the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. There will be other Ice Bowls held in February, including the Horseshoe Canyon Ice Bowl February 27 Horshoe Canyon Ranch in Jasper, and the 4th Annual Fort Smith Ice Bowl February 6 and 2nd Annual Super Class Fort Smith Ice Bowl February 7 at Tilles Park in Fort Smith.

Disc golf enthusiasts embraced their national association’s “no wimps, no whiners” philosophy Saturday morning, teeing off in their “Ice Bowl 2010” tournament in 4-degree weather.
