Foreclosure Activity Jumps

WASHINGTON COUNTY FILINGS UP 51 PERCENT FROM 2008

In January, 848 households in Benton and Washington counties were in various stages of foreclosure including being served with notices of default, auction sales and bank repossession.

The region’s foreclosure activity jumped 24.8 percent from a year ago, putting one in every 206 households in jeopardy last month, according to RealtyTrac, a national real estate marketing firm.

Local foreclosures continue to trend upward, now adding to a three-year pattern.

Benton County reported 3,945 foreclosure filings in 2009, up 20 percent from 2008 and 308 percent increase from 2007 as the region slipped into recession.
