An adult immunization study released last week ranks Arkansas as 12th-worst in the nation for the rate of older Americans who’ve received the pneumonia vaccine.
The report by the Trust for America’s Health and two other groups found that Arkansas was among the dozen states with the lowest immunization rate for the pneumococcal vaccine,which helps prevent a certain type of bacterial pneumonia, streptococcus.
The state came in 12th, with 35.8 percent of adults age 65 and older who have not been inoculated as of 2008, compared with 33.1 going without immunizations nationally.
Oregon rated the highest vaccination rate at No. 51, with 26.8 percent going without the pneumonia protection.
