FASHION FAREWELL?

Disappointing news for Ebony Fashion Fair enthusiasts: The traveling benefit fashion show will not be making a stop in Little Rock this year.

“After months of speculation, it’s now official, the ... Fashion Fair Spring 2010 season has been [suspended],” according to an e-mail from Linda Gillam Weir, college relations director for Arkansas Baptist College, which benefits from the annual fundraiser. “The Fashion Fair Corporation has made the decision to cancel all Fashion Fair shows for the time being ... . Due to the death of EFF Founder Mrs. Eunice Johnson, there will be some restructuring of the corporation and [show].There’s no word as to whether there will be a 2010-11 season.”

The news was confirmed at the Web site for the show, ebonyjet.com/EFF.

“Understanding that this news may disrupt the current fundraising plans for participating organizations,” writes Linda Johnson Rice, chairman and chief executive officer of Johnson Publishing Co. and Eunice Johnson’s daughter, “we will donate two designer garments from the exclusive Ebony Fashion Fair vault to help each organization raise funds.”

The show will be greatly missed. Let’s hope it returns soon.

GIDDY UP

If you like wearing skinny jeans tucked into your boots, you may be irritated by the effort required to keep them there.

If so, try Stiruppz. These one-size, clip-on fashion aids are touted as comfortable and not damaging to clothing. “No more tugging worries about baggy jeans or chunky ankles - Stiruppz keep your style secure,” according to a news release for the product.

Stiruppz work best when jeans are cuffed; you need only cuff and fold your jeans to the desired length and clip on the stiruppz. Stiruppz are available for $25 a pair at stir uppz.com.

PROM GLAM REVISITED

A gentle reminder for those looking for a fabulous prom gown at an inexpensive price: Consider resale.

Carol Wilson, proprietor of consignment boutique A Fitting Image in west Little Rock, says she has about 400 full length prom gowns as well as “a couple hundred” short dresses. Sizes range from 0 to 26. “I’ve got everything from the slinky, knit-type stuff to the full ball gowns,” Wilson says. Labels include Jovani, Paris Prom, Blondie Nights, Alyce Designs, Cachet, Michelangelo, Precious Formals, Betsy & Adam, Jessica McClintock and Victor Costa. Most dresses fall in the $79-$110 range.

There’s something for the guys, too, in the form of tuxedo rental. Wilson rents Paul Morrell Formalwear and is offering $10 off rental for any customer who recommends a buddy who rents. Next-day service is available.
