George Junior High School students Maria Escobar, left, and Kurtis Westphal troubleshoot the starting system to an electric car Tuesday at the Springdale school. The car is being built as a learning enrichment project.
As three Southwest Junior High School students watched for traffic, classmate Brandon Jones strapped on a helmet so he could drive around the east parking lot. He turned the key for his motorized cart and the engine responded with a humming noise. He released the brake and took off, circling two laps before stopping.
