Bulldogs Correct Mistakes To Win Against Guy-Perkins

— Turnovers and missed free throws have been an issue for Fayetteville’s boys basketball team over the first few weeks of the season.

They weren’t a problem Tuesday, though.

Cameron Paschke and Reid Armstrong each made late free throws, and the Bulldogs committed only 11 turnovers to hold on for a 49-42 win against Guy-Perkins in the opening round of the John Stanton Memorial Wampus Cat Invitational in Conway.

“We’re working on the things that we’re not very good at. We turned the ball over way too much at Springfield,” Fayetteville coach Kyle Adams said, referring to his team’s stint at last week’s Kickapoo Tournament in Springfield, Mo. “(Tuesday night) we had only 11.”

Fayetteville guard Kile Graves scored a team-high 16 points, and Paschke added eight to help the Bulldogs (4-2) move into the winner’s bracket. They’ll face Jonesboro at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Fayetteville overcame a poor shooting performance and outscored Guy-Perkins 19-12 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.

“It was close the whole way,” Adams said. “We shot the ball poorly compared to what we had been.”
