The city of Fayetteville has determined that its animal shelter soon will no longer accept stray animals from outside city limits.
Editor's Note
Information about how much the city of Fayetteville charges Washington County to house the county’s homeless animals was incorrect in an editorial that ran Tuesday. Fayetteville charges the county a one-time fee of $75 per animal. This story has been corrected.

I'd like to offer a correction. The City of Fayetteville receives $75 per animal that is brought in by the county not per day. The $75 is to offset the cost of the 5-day holding period for strays. The City then covers all the costs when those animals are moved to the adoption floor following the holding period.

I think is a great idea, and if the facility were on the county land down there on Clydesdale Road it would even be within walking distance of the county jail so that work release and community service inmates could be used fully.
