Grant lays rural link to schools, hospitals

Rick Wade, deputy chief of staff at the U.S. Department of Commerce, greets Dr. Curtis Lowery, chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, after announcing a $102 million grant to expand broadband Internet access in the state Wednesday in Little Rock.
A $128 million broadband network will knock down barriers for the state’s rural residents by opening pathways between their towns and health-care and educational facilities in the state’s more urban areas, organizers said Wednesday.
