School District Ready For More Students

Portable Buildings Set Up At Three Campuses

Har-Ber High School sophomores and their families line up Thursday to get their class schedules for the new school year at the school in Springdale. Hundreds of students arrived to get schedules, photo IDs, pay fines and fees and get locker assignments.

The school district keeps growing and growing. Springdale Superintendent Jim Rollins said he expects enrollment in grades K-12 to be about 18,900 students when school starts Thursday.

Springdale School District recent construction projects include larger cafeterias, commons areas, libraries and additional classrooms to serve a growing student population.

• Springdale High School building addition over Emma Avenue was finished.

• New brick and glass exterior for 1961 classroom building at Springdale High School.

• New library additions for Westwood and Parson Hills elementary schools.

• Cafeteria expansion under way at Central Junior High School.

Millage Election

The district is seeking a 2.4-mill property tax increase to build a new middle school, junior high, athletic complex at Har-Ber High School and update the Springdale High School football stadium. The election will be Sept. 21, and the last day to register to vote is Aug. 23.

Church Preps For Annual Clothing Giveaway

GIVING BACK - Rebekah Egle, 16, organizes clothes Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Bentonville. The church will hold its annual Clothing Giveaway from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the family life center. The church is still accepting donations of gently worn clothes and shoes until noon today.
