Arkansas museums see rise in attendance

Attendance at museums in Little Rock and around the state is climbing, with the economic recession as well as new exhibits and attractions getting credit for it.

At Little Rock’s MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, attendance was up 2 percent in 2009, and attendance jumped 14 percent at the Historic Arkansas Museum, also in Little Rock, officials said.

“Traditionally when there is a recession, museums thatare open to the public and free see an increase in attendance. It’s a great way for families to do something that is affordable and meaningful,” said Heather Haywood, deputy director/ director of marketing for the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock.
