BENTONVILLE — About 300 Kendrick Fincher Hydration Foundation supporters gathered on the ninth floor of the Bentonville Plaza building on April 17 for the inaugural A View from the Top fundraiser.
The event garnered approximately $15,000 for the charity that promotes proper hydration and prevention of heat illness through presentations to school children, athletes, coaches and parents.
The Fincher Foundation also distributes water bottles at its presentations and provides “cool huts” that are misting tents at various public events.
The group recently embarked on the Hydration Campaign to provide continuing education for coaches paired with online information and quizzes for students and parents.
Springdale Har-Ber High School football coach Chris Wood said, “(The foundation) is a great resource for information on hydration and preventing dehydration in kids. It’s been a great reminder for coaches to watch for the signs that lead to heat problems, and we can share the information with parents and players. I’m more aware of heat problems and continue to look for ways to protect players. That’s all because of the Fincher Foundation.”
On May 15, the organization will host the 12th annualKendrick Fincher Youth Run and 5K run/walk at Pinnacle Hills Promenade. Participation in the youth run is free, and registration for the 5k run/walk is $20 before Friday, after that, $25. After the two events, the foundation will host a family event at the mall with vendor booths and children’s activities, and Oakland Raider and former Razorback Darren McFadden will be on hand to sign autographs.
