LOCAL COMPANIES TESTING ALTERNATIVE FUELS, HYBRID ENGINES

Allen McGaugh, trailer mechanic with Willis Shaw Express, repairs a water pump on the engine to a refrigeration unit on a trailer Thursday at the company’s Elm Springs maintenance yard. Willis Shaw is purchasing newer, lighter-weight trailers that will use less fuel.
Walmart and J.B. Hunt Transport Services are using clout and economies of scale to test alternative fuels and hybrid engines.
