Petrinos clinch victory in Red-White scrimmage

Quarterback Nick Petrino drops back to pass during the first half of the annual Red-White game Saturday at Razorback Stadium.

— With his father calling the plays, the coach's son came through in the clutch.

Quarterback Nick Petrino, the son of Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino, rushed in for a three-yard touchdown with 2 minutes, 10 seconds remaining to cap a 31-21 win for the White team in Arkansas' annual Red-White spring game Saturday night at Razorback Stadium.

"I'm very proud of Nick," Bobby Petrino said. "... I certainly know it's not easy to be the coach's son on the football team and he's competed hard all spring long and has done a nice job."

Bobby Petrino handled offensive play-calling with the White team, while offensive coordinator Garrick McGee steered the Red in front of an estimated announced crowd of 30,000, which dwindled considerably as heavy rains moved through Fayetteville during the scrimmage.

Alex Tejada, who missed an extra point kick, hit a 38-yard field goal earlier in the fourth quarter to break a 21-21 tie with the Red team, which was quarterbacked by Tyler Wilson and Brandon Mitchell.

Mitchell ran for two touchdowns, including an 88-yard run in the first quarter. Newcomer Jacoby Walker led all quarterbacks by completing 6 of 11 passes for 183 yards and 2 touchdowns on the White team.
