ADVERTORIAL — Yellow squash, black beans, red peppers... How green is your food? From field to fork, Allens is focused on sustainability and takes great care in how their products are grown and harvested. As a multigenerational, family owned company founded and headquartered in Siloam Springs, Allens understands the importance of knowing where your vegetables come from, how they are grown and the journey they’ve been on before landing in front of you at supper.

As a leader in providing quality vegetables, Allens is in touch with farms and the earth. They grow healthy and delicious vegetables, from seed to harvest, for a living—and are proud to sustain their families with what they are passionate about in life, according to Patty Daniels, Manger of Grades and Standards for Allens, Inc.

“At Allens, it is clear to us that we must help sustain the environment in return.

Sustainability is constantly at the forefront of Allens operations, at all levels,” Daniels said.

In the field their harvest trucks collect crops on higher efficiency tires, keeping air pressure longer and reducing the contribution to the 1.5 million extra tons of greenhouse gases emitted. In their many facilities across the country, electricity use has been cut by 30 percent.

Allens’ corporate offices are making strides too—nearly 40 percent of water usage has been reduced.

“While sustainability starts at the field it doesn’t end at the harvest,” explains Daniels. “We have several programs at every level to make efforts in reducing our carbon footprint. We have programs at all of our facilities, including the corporate office such as recycling, low-energy light bulbs, reducing the amount of water we use. And the list goes on…”

Not only “green”, Allens is red, white and blue, too. They are proud to grow and distribute canned and frozen vegetables almost entirely within the U.S. They have plants in Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, New York and Wisconsin. By working with local farmers across the country, they not only provide healthier products, but also support the national economy. Allens is a American family-owned and operated company, making safe and quality vegetables for families, right in their backyards, since 1926.

Allens is available across the country in major retailers like Walmart, Food Lion and Meijer as well as many independent grocers. Here, locally in Northwest

Arkansas families can find Allens at their local grocer. Products are also available to order online at www.store.AllenCanning.com.
