Expanded facility, museum to draw visitors to state, conference told

An expanded and updated Wal-Mart Visitors Center, coupled with the developing Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art nearby, should be a powerful draw to lure more tourists to Northwest Arkansas, participants at a regional conference were told Thursday.

The visitors center has remained largely unchanged since it opened two decades ago.

“Good things are happening,” Alan Dranow, Wal-Mart director of brand communications, told those attending the Northwest Arkansas Regional Development 2010 Conference. Dranow’s duties include the visitors center, which currently does not cover in its exhibits the period during which the Bentonville-based company founded by the late Sam Walton grew to become the world’s largest retailer.
