Disability awareness focus of event

Local businessmen will learn what it's like to be "disabled for a day" Thursday at the Fayetteville Athletic Club, 2920 E. Zion Road.

The event, which pits business professionals against each other in paralympic sports like wheelchair basketball, wheelchair sprints and sit volleyball, is designed to promote the hiring and retention of disabled employees during National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The unemployment rate for people with disabilities between the ages of 16 and 64 is about 68 percent according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Competition is set for 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The group will hear from world champion sit volleyball player Brent Rasmussen before the competition.

More information is available by calling Kelly J. Carter at (860) 843-9420 or John Carideo at (203) 240-5508.
