Mayor's son jailed on drug charge

— Police arrested the Rogers mayor's son, James Phillip Womack, on a drug-related charge Friday after police said he sold methamphetamine to an informant in April.

A probable cause affidavit says Womack sold approximately 6 grams of methamphetamine to the informant for $600.

Mayor Steve Womack and his wife Terri issued a statement saying they are "deeply troubled" by their son's actions and that he is accountable.

Police used a confidential informant with a recording device to make an undercover buy April 21 at Fairway Apartments on North Dixieland Road in Rogers, the affidavit states. Detectives followed the informant.

The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory later confirmed the substance James Womack sold to the informant was methamphetamine, according to the affidavit, filed June 1 in Circuit Court.

District Judge Brad Karren authorized a warrant for James Phillip Womack on a charge of delivery of a controlled substance June 16. Steve Womack said his son met with attorney Shane Wilkinson, then turned himself in Friday after learning of the warrant.

Wilkinson declined comment.
