FEAT OF THE WEEK Jonesboro linebacker Greer hard to handle

— Little Rock Parkview's chances of opening 6A-East play with a victory were literally sacked Thursday night at Little Rock Fair's War Eagle Stadium.

Jonesboro's most proficient bag man was junior outside linebacker Terrance Greer, who earned the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Feat of the Week with five sacks in a37-7 victory.

In all, unbeaten Jonesboro sacked senior quarterback Benjamin Anderson 11 times for 82 yards in losses.

Greer's five sacks - believed to be a school record - totaled 48 yards in losses.

"I can't imagine it not being a school record, just because typically in the past, the teams Jonesboro was playing back when the defenses were really good were run-orientedoffenses," Golden Hurricane Coach Randy Coleman said. "I would be shocked if it was not a record."

Coleman, a 1992 Jonesboro graduate, said Greer's performance was reminiscent of old-school NFL sack masters like Lawrence Taylor and Derrick Thomas.

"That's really kind of what it looked like," Coleman said. "It was just one of those of games where we had schemedup the right defense. We were bringing more than they had to block."

Coleman said Jonesboro used a 3-4 alignment, with middle linebacker Brad Shearin bringing pressure in the center of the line and Greer, 6-1, 225 pounds, trying to get to Anderson from the outside.

Coleman said he was aware during the game that Greer was having a monstrous night, adding the linebacker had back-to-back sacks on two occasions.

"They were good-looking sacks, too," Coleman said. "I know one time Anderson pump-faked, and as soon as Anderson came out of his pump-fake, Terrance just decleated him.

"It was just one of those deals that really what was going through my mind was, 'Wow!' "
