Police find naked person sleeping in UA bathroom

— Fayetteville police took a nude man into custody Sunday after heallegedly broke into the University of Arkansas' Engineering Hall and locked himself in a bathroom stall.

Steven Aaron Shoemaker, 24,of 2678 Shasten St. in Grove, Okla., faces felony charges of commercial burglary, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police responded to Engineering Hall, located at 790 W. Dickson St., for a report of a broken window at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers located the window in the men's bathroom on the north side of the building. Lying next to the window was a large metal grate, which investigators believe was used to break the window.

Upon entering the building, officers approached the men's bathroom, located in Room 106. According to the police report, officers heard someone snoring inside a bathroom stall. Police then saw a man, later identified as Shoemaker, sitting in the middle stall. He was wearing socks but no shoes.

According to a preliminary dispatch report, one officer drew his weapon and pointed it toward the ground, while another officer opened the bathroom stall. Shoemaker, who wassleeping, had no clothes on and was covered in feces. When he woke, he told officers he was just using the bathroom. He admitted breaking into the building in order to relieve himself.

Officers provided Shoemaker with a blanket and allowed him to clean himself before placing him under arrest. Pictures were taken of the scene.

While transporting him to the Washington County Detention Center, officers found Shoemaker's clothes behind a tree on Old Main lawn. The police searched his pockets and found Shoemaker's identification in addition to a clear plastic bag of marijuana and a pipe.

He was booked on the listed charges but was later released on a $2,500 bond.
