FORREST CITY - Heaven's gates opened on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, to welcome home Laverne Rose Cox, age 90, of Forrest City, Ark.

Mrs. Cox was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Vanndale, Ark. She was the daughter of John Walter Rose and Mollie Futrell Rose. Mrs. Cox was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church; she was also a member of the Happy Dayers, TEL Sunday School class, and was an avid quilter and a member of the First Baptist Quilters Club.

Mrs. Cox married Thomas Edward Cox in 1936 and he preceded her in death in 1971. She is survived by three daughters; Gloria R. Courtney and husband Wayne of Forrest City, Linda Farr of Proctor, Ark., and Connie Johnson and husband Roy of Jacksonville, Ark.; four sons, Thomas Edward Cox and wife Rose of Kosciusko, Miss., Mickey Cox and wife Camillia of Conway, Walter B. Cox and wife Judi of Fayetteville and Phil Cox and wife Kay of Olive Branch, Miss.; a brother, Billy R. Rose and wife Graple of Wynne. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by an infant son, Billy Steve Cox; and also a granddaughter, Emily Rose Cox; a great-grandson, Michael; a son-in-law, Eddy Farr Poe; a grandson-in-law, Johnny Poe.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Forrest City. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Forrest City. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in Forrest City.
