Local teams fare well at cross country meet

— A number of local cross country teams had strong showings Saturday at the annual Simmons Food Cross Country Meet, including the Bentonville Lady Tigers finishing first in the large schools division of the senior high girls meet.

The Rogers Lady Mounties finished fourth in the senior girls meet while Heritage finished eighth.

In the senior boys large schools division, Bentonville finished third while Rogers finished sixth. Siloam Springs and Heritage finished seventh and eighth respectively. Conway won the meet followed by Fayetteville.

In the small schools boys division, Pea Ridge finished second behind Shiloh Christian.

The Bentonville Lady Tigers had five finish in the top 11 of Saturday's meet. Led by Elena Sanz who ran a 20:22.24 and finished fourth.

Sanz was followed by Mary Kate Brelsford (20:40.25, sixth place), Tayler Estrada (21:04.21, eighth), Shannon Sullivan (21:35.41, 10th) and Lauren Cowgur (21:42.22, 11th).

Siloam Springs' Rachel Hill ran a 22:39.27 to finish in a tie for 12th. Rogers' Guadalupe Montoya ran a 23:09.69 and finished 16th overall.

For the Bentonville boys, Travis Diepenbrock ran a 17:50.34 and finished eighth. Bentonville's Adam Ironsand Mason McClelland each finished in the top 15.

In the small schools boys division, Pea Ridge's Colby Schooley (19:21.50) and Colton Holtgrewe (19:24.42) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

In the junior high divisions, Siloam Springs won the girls meet while Bentonville Black finished fifth. Rogers finished sixth and Bentonville Gold seventh.

In the junior high boys division, Siloam Springs finished second followed by Bentonville Black, Bentonville Gold and Rogers to round out the top 5.

In the small schools junior high divisions, the Pea Ridge boys finished second while the Pea Ridge girls finished third.
