We can still stop change

— Have I missed my chance to be labeled a conservative who opposes change? Historically, conservatives have argued loyalty to the king, justified slavery, opposed women voting and opposed Social Security and Medicare, which are seen as socialism.

Obama's victory rode the call for change. Change from corporate executives' greed cemented by political contributions and lobbying efforts while the middle class loses pensions, jobs and health care. Change from the lack of governmentoversight on financial institutions that have led to financial disaster and the gouging by pharmaceutical, insurance, oil and gas companies. What's wrong with that?

All may not be lost. I could spread the fear and misinformation from Fox News or Limbaugh about health-care reform since I know citizens will listen to this rather than research to get accurate information.

I could join the Republican Party and obstruct everything so Obama doesn't succeed. Isn't political success more important, regardless of what is in thebest interest of the country?

I could go to public meetings and shout to block intelligent discussion based on fact.

I could support the Blue Dog Democrats who get support from the same corporations that are causing the problem. Why, I could even attend a tax TEA party.

Everything was going so well before Obama - especially health care, right? Why shouldn't I continue to be a pawn of corporate America?
