SWAC UAPB's offense struggles

— Arkansas-Pine Bluff's offense never really got going Saturday in a 28-7 loss to Alabama A&M before 4,414 in the rain at Louis Crews Stadium.

UAPB (2-2, 1-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) was held to 157 total yards. And 34 yards of that total came on a touchdown pass from Rontrell Bailey to Raymond Webber to trim the deficit to 21-7 before halftime.

UAPB rushed 16 times for 10 yards in the game. And Bailey completed 11 of 31 passes for 147 yards. Most of that total came late in the game. Bailey was 2 of 19 before completing 9 of his last 12 attempts.

Alabama A&M running back Ulysses Banks ran 34 times for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Alabama A&M led 14-0 after the first quarter. Banks scored on a 6-yard run with 10:10 left and a 3-yard run with 23 seconds left. The lead increased to 21-0 with 3:26 left in the first half on a 23-yard pass from Atkins to Thomas Harris.

Just before halftime, UAPB got the ball back after a punt. On the second play, Bailey hit Webber with the touchdown pass for the 21-7 score.

But the Golden Lions couldn't build on it. Alabama A&M took the second-half kickoff and went 80 yards on 15 plays. Atkins passed to Jared Bing for an 11-yard touchdown with 6:02 left.
