LITTLE ROCK — VOLLEYBALL Red Wolves defeat Ragin' Cajuns
Sophomore Cayla Fielder and freshman Brittany Hoag had 12 kills each as visiting Arkansas State (11-5, 1-1 Sun Belt Conference) beat Louisiana-Lafayette 25-23, 25-14, 25-18 on Saturday.
Louisiana-Lafayette fell to 6-10 and 0-1.
UALR loses to New Orleans
UALR (7-6, 1-1 Sun Belt Conference) lost 26-24, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19 to host New Orleans on Saturday.
Anita Bucur led the Trojans with 14 kills, while Giuliana De Francesco had 43 assists and 14 digs. Emily Pepperman led UALR with 15 digs.
Hendrix defeats Philander Smith
Hendrix College defeated Philander Smith 25-10, 25-10, 25-22 on Saturday at Conway.
Leah Groat had 14 kills while Danielle Young had 40 assists to lead the Warriors (5-11) to the victory. Shadawna Perkins led Philander Smith with 8 kills, 4 digs and 1 assist.
Harding beats Lyon
The Harding Lady Bisons won their 11th consecutive, defeating Lion College 25-9, 22-25, 25-9 and 25-15.
Samantha Anderson had a game-high 17 kills to lead Harding (13-2). Lyon (6-13) was led by Lauren Castleberry's 10 kills.
VOLLEYBALLUCA defeats McNeese State
The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears won their 12th consecutive match with a 25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-16 victory over McNeese State in Lake Charles, La., on Saturday.
Central Arkansas (13-2, 2-0 Southland Conference) was led by Chloe Smith's 19 kills and .341 hitting percentage. McNeese State drops to 13-3 and 1-1.
Jessica Hays had a season-high 15 kills with 12 digs for UCA.
SOCCER JBU sweeps doubleheader
The John Brown University women's and men's soccer teams both earned shutouts against Texas Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Golden Eagles (3-4) won 1-0, while the Golden Eagles won 3-0.
In the women's game, John Brown's goal came from Mikey Brannon in the 86th minute. John Brown outshot Texas Wesleyan 20-5.
The John Brown men (6-3) received two goals from Juan Iraola and one goal from Gabriel Duarte.
TENNISRazorbacks go 4-1 to open play
The Arkansas Razorbacks men finished 4-1 in singles and doubles at the HEB Baylor Invitational.
Chris Nott defeated Texas Tech's Rafael Garcia, 6-3, 6-1 and Texas A&M's Jeff Dadamo, 7-6 (6), 6-3. He will face Texas A&M's Phillip Steven in the round of 16.
Matt Hogan lost to Rice's Bruno Rosa, but came back to defeat Texas-Arlington's Mindavgas Celedinas. And in doubles, Nott and Hogan defeated Louisiana-Lafayette's Piotr Olechowski and Javier Pulgar-Garcia 8-3. They also defeated TCU's Slah Mbarek and Chris Price.
SOFTBALL Razorbacks split with Tulsa
Arkansas junior Becca Carden and senior Sandra Smith each homered in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader to lead the Razorbacks to a 9-0 victory and a split on the day with Tulsa at Bogle Park. In the first game, the Hogs lost 2-0 after being held to two hits.
CROSS COUNTRYSAU second at Rhodes
The Southern Arkansas men finished in second place at the Rhodes College Invitational on Sunday at Plaugh Park in Memphis.
The Muleriders placed all five runners in the top 20, led by Dusty Hardin (28 minutes, 15 seconds) in 11th and Mickey Hammer (28:20) in 12th. The others were Colton Connelly in 15th, Nathan Blim in 17th and Todd McAdoo in 20th.
The SAU women finished sixth.
Kirwa wins again
Harding's Daniel Kirwa won his second consecutive race to lead the Bisons to a third-place finish at the NCAA prenationals meet at Southern Indiana on Saturday.
Kirwa completed the 8K race in 24 minutes, 35 seconds, three seconds ahead of Abilene Christian's Amos Sang. Harding's Phillip Biwott was third.
The Harding women finished fifth overall and were led by Esther Kosgei's 12th-place finish.
