SALEM, Ala. - Memorial service for George D. Freeman, 60, of Salem, Ala., is Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel. Rev. Robert Karcher is officiating.

Mr. Freeman was born Nov. 19, 1948, in North Little Rock, Ark. He died Sept. 24, 2009, at East Alabama Medical Center. Mr. Freeman had been a resident of the Auburn area since 1988. He worked for 30 years in development and fundraising for institutions of higher education.

He is survived by wife, Julia R. Freeman of Salem; two daughters, Shelley (Chuck) Taylor of Eufaula, Ashley (Michael) Ward of Auburn; granddaughter, Haley Taylor of Auburn; three brothers, Larry (Darla) Freeman of Sherwood, Ark., Steve Freeman of North Little Rock, Ark., and Scott (Tracy) Freeman of Ponca City, Okla.; sister, Cindy (Terry) Beck of Sherwood, Ark.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to American Heart Association or William F. Walker Endowed Scholarship Fund, c/o Auburn University.
