— HOPE Inc., Cancer Support Home receive grants

Two Northwest Arkansas organizations were presented grants totaling $26,000 from the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Auxiliary at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

HOPE Inc. (Helping Oncology Patients Excel) in Fayetteville was granted $20,000 for its patient emergency assistance program, and $6,000 was presented to the Cancer Support Home in Fayetteville and Bentonville for its prosthesis and wig boutique.

The grants are made available, in part, with proceeds from the Auxiliary's Partners Card fundraising project. The 2009 Partners Card week will be held Oct. 30 throughNov. 8.

Partners Card has been offered for three years in Northwest Arkansas and five years in central Arkansas. For nine days, shoppers who purchase the $50 cards will receive a 20-percent discount at dozens of area stores. All proceeds from the sale of the Partners Cards go to the Cancer Institute Auxiliary to fund projects that directly benefit cancer patients.

Partners Card has raised $76,000 during its first three years in Northwest Arkansas, which was returned to the community as grants for direct cancer patient care. Lighting Emporium in Springdale has been the top card seller in Northwest Arkansas for the past three years.

The Cancer Institute Auxiliary has about 600 members.
