Kingsdale Squares

Preceptor Alpha Upsilon

The last meeting was held Sept. 14 at the home of Kathy Spila with 11 members present.

President Wilma Fizer called for the opening ritual. Minutes and the treasurer's report were approved as read. Service Chairwoman Vicki Lunsford reported that the donations of Children's Advocacy Center treats will continue to be collected at the first meeting of each month.

Marilyn Glenn will collect oatmeal for the food bank at the second meeting of each month. The phone committee reported all were contacted. Marilyn Glenn read from the Yard Stick. The mystery package was won by Callie Ockerman. The 2009-2010 budget was approved. The next meeting will be Monday at Marilyn Glenn's home. The Christmas social will be at the Prairie Creek Steakhouse on Dec. 4.

Benton County Democratic Central Committee

The committee will meet Oct. 12 in Bentonville. The meeting is planned for 90 minutes and will get under way at 6 p.m. at the Bentonville Public Library.The library is at 405 S. Main St.

Siloam Springs Republican Women

The group will welcome Joyce Phillips, a past president of the Arkansas Federation of Republican Women, at their Monday meeting. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Signature Bank Community Room, 200 Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs. Coffee will be served at 6:30 p.m. The program will get under way at 7 p.m.

Phillips is also a former membership chairperson of the National Federation of Republican Women.

NWACC Art Club

In recognition of National Arts and Humanities Month, the club is hosting "Art Rocks," a concert benefiting the club and Benton County School of the Arts High School.

The concert will be held at the Benton County Fairgrounds Arena on Saturday. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the show will start at 7 p.m. The lineup includes Taylor Clayborne, Disasterful, Sucker Punch Railroad and the Great Scotts. Concessions will be available.

Bella Vista Fly Tyers Club

The club will hold its regular monthly business meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista.

Ozark Hills Daylily Club

The club will participate in the fall plant sale at the Northwest Arkansas Garden Co-Op, just inside the Village Wastewater Co. plant on U.S. Highway 71, near the Missouri border, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Bella Vista Republican Women

Two GOP candidates in the 2010 election - Buddy Rogers and Bernie Skoch - will be guest speakers Monday.

The meetingwill begin at 9 a.m. at Concordia Retirement Village, 1 Concordia Drive in Bella Vista.

Rogers, a candidate for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate, announced his candidacy last Tuesday.

Rogers faces numerous GOP rivals in the race for the Republican nomination.

The winner of the GOP primary will face the Democratic candidate.

U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., is seeking a third term and may face a challenge from state Sen. Bob Johnson, D-Bigelow.

Retired U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen.

Bernie Skoch will be the other speaker at the club meeting.

He is seeking the GOP nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives from northwest Arkansas' 3rd Congressional District.

The other candidate in the race for the GOP U.S. House nomination isincumbent U.S. Rep. John Boozman, R-Ark. Elected in a special election in 2001, Boozman is seeking a sixth term in the U.S. House.

Welcome Club Ladies Day Out

On Oct. 20, the group will go to the Peel Mansion in Bentonville for a private tour of the Peel Mansion Museum and Heritage Gardens. Members will have lunch in the conservatory. The cost is $20. After lunch, members will tour Compton Gardens.

Members will meet for carpooling at 9:15 a.m. in the parking lot across from the Town Center, just to the right of the Village Bible Evangelical Free Church in Bella Vista.

Bella Vista Kiwanis Club

The club's annual poinsettia sale is under way.

The plants, in red, white or salmon, are $10 each and stand 16 to 20 inches tall. Each will have six to nine blooms.

Plants are being sold by all club members and will be delivered on Dec. 3. Special delivery options are available.

Proceeds will go toward the club's many community projects.

Siloam Springs Writers

The group held its annual fall prose and poetry workshop at the Siloam Springs Senior Activity Center. Linda Fulkerson, chairwoman of the Arkansas Branch of American Christian Fiction Writers, judged prose entries and spoke to the writers on "Perking Up Your Prose."

Andy Trevathan, a doctoral candidate in poetry at the University of Arkansas, judged poetry entries and gave those present a summary of poetry styles from the earliest recorded to the present. She also gave hints for writing contemporary poetry.
