— The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has named First Baptist Church of Springdale, The Church at Pinnacle Hills and Shiloh Christian School as winners of the 2009 Energy Star Congregation Awards.

The award represents excellence in energy efficiency and is an example of financial and environmental stewardship. In winning this award, the groups are being honoredfor outstanding energy efficiency through energy management improvements on both campuses over the last two years.

As demonstrated by winning this award, the church has an exemplary energy conservation program in partnership with Energy Education. Since initiating the program in March 2008, the church has reduced energy consumption by an average of 29 percent, resultingin a total savings of more than $356,000.

First Christian Church's Outreach Team will partner with the Peace at Home Family Shelter in its sixth annual Fiesta 2009 on Oct. 3 at the Springdale Civic Center, 2323 S. Old Missouri Road. Volunteers are needed from 9-11 a.m. and from 4-6 p.m. to help with the setup and tear down of the event, which will include live music,dance competitions, children's games, food for sale, raffles, games and contests, scavenger hunt, and business and service information booths. Jerrel Brashear, of Russellville, will be singing for the Homecoming at the Westside Free Will Baptist Church, 1304 Johnson Road in Springdale, on Oct. 4. Brashear sings Southern gospel music. The event is open to the public.

Salem Lutheran Church and School, 1800 W. Emma in Springdale, will host a Fall Festival/Trunk or Treat from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25. There will be food, games, crafts, face painting and a costume parade. For more information, call 751-9359.
