ALDI gets nod from planners

It will be located along U.S. Highway 412.

— The Siloam Springs Planning Commission recently approved a grocery store to be built across from Wal-Mart along U.S. Highway 412.

The development permit for ALDI Inc. was approved for 2802 Highway 412 East, the former home of the Siloam Springs Housing Authority.

The building on the site would be torn down, according to the plans.

The Siloam Springs Board of Directors still must approve it Oct. 6.

ALDI has not yet purchased the property, said Mark Bersted, vice president of ALDI's Olathe, Kan., division.

Obtaining the appropriate permits is part of the due-diligence process before the property is purchased, he said. Plans show the store will be 17,886 square feet with 80 parking spaces.

Increased landscaping will be provided along the west side of the property, according to a planning staff memo.
