Shiloh Christian slams Berryville

— Shiloh Christian used pinpoint accuracy to reverse its fortune Friday night.

Junior quarterback Kiehl Frazier completed all 8 of his passes for 145 yards and 3 touchdowns, all in the first quarter, as the Saints coasted to a 37-0 victory over Berryville at Champions Stadium.

It was a far cry from last season's matchup, when Shiloh Christian defeated the Bobcats 65-0 at Berryville. That victory sparked a bitter controversy that fueled an intense debate during the offseason about whether private schools should continue to compete against public schools in the playoffs.

Shiloh Christan pulled its starters early in the second quarter Friday night after taking a 27-0 lead.

"It's a whole lot different," Berryville Coach Bobby Bishop said. "I feel like they did an excellent job. They handled themselves with a lot of class, and I appreciate what they did for us."

Frazier connected with Chris Bryant, Jake Scott and Zann Jones for scoring plays, and Bryant added 32-yard touchdown run to give the Saints a 27-0 lead after one quarter. Trevor Tumlinson kicked a 35-yard field goal early in the second quarter, giving Shiloh Christian a 30-0 lead it took into halftime.

Frazier's eff icient effort against Berryville (1-2-1) came a week after he threw 3 interceptions while passing for 499 yards and 6 touchdowns in a 54-51 loss at Greenwood.

"Kiehl came back and played well," Shiloh Christian Coach Josh Floyd said. "He played great last week, minus a few throws. They were bringing pressure off the edge, but he came out here and hit his receivers."

Sophomore Rand Emert replaced Frazier at quarterback for the Saints (3-1) andcompleted 5 of 6 passes for 67 yards.

"We just blocked well up front," Frazier said. "I had no pressure, and neither did Rand. The receivers caught the ball and made plays."

Berryville had trouble against the Saints' stout defensive line as well, rushing for just 30 yards on 30 carries. Bobcats quarterback Jeremy Wilson completed 7 of 12 passes for 88 yards, going just 2 of 6 for 11 yards in the first half.

Wilson led Berryville inside the Saints' 10 twice in the fourth quarter, but the Bobcats came away empty both times. Scotty Sappenfield intercepted Wilson in the end zone with 6:45 left, and David Tyler recovereda Bobcats fumble in the final minute.

"I thought he handled himself well," Bishop said of Wilson. "That's a tough situation to be in, but he showed a lot of poise and heart. That defensive front is just excellent."

Both teams lost fumbles in the opening minutes with the game still scoreless.

After driving 21 yards to midfield on the opening drive, Berryville punted it away, but the Bobcats regained possession when Bryce Hostetler recovered a fumble at the Bobcats' 40. Berryville, however, turned it back over two plays later when Jones recovered a Bobcats fumble.

The Saints immediatelytook advantage, scoring on Frazier's 39-yard touchdown pass to Bryant 20 seconds later.

Shiloh Christian scored on its next four possessions, following Bryant's touchdown run with a 44-yard pass to Scott, a 20-yard strike to Jones and Tumlinson's field goal.

The Saints added one more touchdown in the third quarter on an 18-yard run by David Tyler.

"I don't know if they have a weak spot," Bishop said of the Saints, who are ranked No. 1 in Class 4A and No. 5 overall. "They have great athletes at every position. They have a lot of athletes to get the ball to, and they know how to do it."
