— 100 YEARS AGO Sept. 25, 1909

That the State Capitol Commission will probably begin advertising for bids on the work of completing the state capitol structure by Oct. 10, that the architect's plans will probably be finished by Oct. 20 and that the commission will likely be able to award the contract for the completion of the work Nov. 1 was the announcement made yesterday by Governor Donaghey, chairman of the commission. The governor declared yesterday that he hoped to be able to contract for all the work of completing the building in one contract.

50 YEARS AGO Sept. 25, 1959 PINE BLUFF - After a three-week delay because of an integration controversy, all three schools in the troubled Dollarway district opened for the fall term today on a segregated basis. Superintendent Charles Fallis said the situation was normal for an opening day at the Dollarway School for whites from Grades 1 through 12, the Townsend Park School for Negroes from Grades 1 through 12 and the Hardin Elementary School for whites. All students were asked to report for a half-day of worktoday with exceptionof pupils in Dollarway High School Grades 10 through 12. The latter will report Monday for a full day of classes.

25 YEARS AGO Sept. 25, 1984

The North Little Rock Ambulance Committee Monday decided that the city should advertise for private firms to provide paramedic ambulance service, but the City Council adjourned before hearing its recommendation. The committee has been studying whether to have a private firm or the Little Rock Ambulance Authority provide the service. The committee has also been considering whether a firm should provide 1-A (basic life support) or paramedic service.

10 YEARS AGO Sept. 25, 1999

The state Pollution Control and Ecology Commission on Friday reversed a hearing officer's decision to allow a demolition company to bypass Texarkana's rejection of its landfill permit. Coonrod Construction of Texarkana applied in 1997 for a state permit to open a landfill outside Texarkana to handle construction and demolition debris that now is trucked to a site in Texas.
