— Shoreline cleanup set at Beaver Lake

The annual Beaver Lake Cleanup will be Saturday, with headquarters at Rocky Branch Recreation Area east of Rogers.

The event is part of the Great Arkansas Cleanup and is a joint effort of Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Benton County Solid Waste District.

Park staff and volunteers will travel by boat to pick up litter along the lake's shoreline.

Hours are 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., and volunteers are sought. Lunch will be provided and prizes will be awarded.

2 hunter classes on schedule

Two hunter education classes are scheduled in Northwest Arkansas.

The first will be Saturday on the south campus of North Arkansas College in Harrison. Hours are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and preregistration is not required.

A three-part course is set Monday-Wednesday at the West Fork High School cafeteria. Hours are 6-10 p.m. daily and hunters must attend all three nights to receive certification. Preregistration is not required.

Anyone born after Dec. 31, 1968, must complete a hunter education course and carry a valid hunter education card to be able to hunt in Arkansas.

Children under 16 may hunt without a card as long as they are under the supervision of an adult age 21 or over who has a valid hunting license.

Forest fees waived for a day

National forests in Arkansas and Oklahoma will waive entrance fees at some locations Saturday in honor of National Public Lands Day.

In Northwest Arkansas, freeentry areas include Big Piney, Sylamore and Pleasant Hill ranger districts of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. Fees will remain in effect at areas controlled by private operators, state parks, Blanchard Springs Caverns and the Mount Magazine, BostonMountain and St. Francis ranger districts.

Membership fete on bill for Ducks

The South Logan County chapter of Ducks Unlimited will host its annual membership banquet Saturday at First Baptist Church in Booneville.

The event will begin at 6 p.m.

and includes prizes.

Volunteers are needed to serve on the chapter committee.

Tripleheader hike starts near Pelsor

A tripleheader hike to Pedestal Rocks, King's Bluff and Alum Cove is set Saturday.

The 5.6-mile outing will begin at two trailheads near Pelsor and is rated easy to moderate.

Pedestal Rocks in Pope County is known for its unique sandstone pedestals. Alum Cove in Newton County has a natural bridge that is more than 130 feet long. King's Bluff near Pelsor is known for towering bluffs that offer scenicviews of the Buffalo National River.

Trail run series begins Saturday

The Northwest Arkansas Trail Running Series sponsored by Liart Sports will begin Saturday at Slaughter Pen Hollow Trail in Bentonville.

The event will include a ninemile trail run and a three-mile fun run and hike.

Advance registration is $15 for adults and $7 for children, or $20 and $10 on race day. Race-day registration begins at 7:45 a.m.

Other portions of the fourevent series will be Oct. 24 at Lake Fort Smith State Park near Mountainburg, Nov. 21 at Lake Leatherwood in Eureka Springs and Dec. 12 at Devil's Den State Park near West Fork.
