At a meeting of the Finance Committee of the City Council held in the mayor's office yesterday afternoon, Chief of Police McMahon was instructed to start a crusade at once to compel vehicle owners of the city to pay the license fees provided for by the city ordinances. Members of the committee designed that the payment of the license fee had been allowed to go by default in many instances and that there were numerous vehicles in the city that had no license.

50 YEARS AGO Sept. 24, 1959 WASHINGTON - The Greater Little Rock area's eight radio stations had a total income of only $7,344 last year, according to a report from the Federal Communications Commission released today. Total broadcast revenues for the eight stations combined amounted to $1,037,837. This, however, was offset by operating expenses totaling $1,030,493. Because the FCC lumps the financial data for individual radio stations together to prevent disclosing trade secrets between stations, it is impossible to determine which stations operated inthe red and which made a profit last year.

Amendment 66 would allow casinos in Garland County, where they operated illegally for decades under a look-the-otherway plan until closed by Gov. Orval E. Faubus and Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller 20 years ago. Whether their re-opening would be a boon or burden is the issue. The measure was put on the Nov. 6 general election ballot with a petition bearing 165,000 signatures. 10 YEARS AGO Sept. 24, 1999

The Alltel Arena should finish 2000 with a $353,643 deficit under a budget approved by the Pulaski County Multipurpose Civic Center Facility Board on Thursday. The deficit came as no real shock to arena board members since members of the arena's management company when hired said that the arena might lose money during its first five years of operation. "We feel like this is a worst case scenario," said General Manager Michael Marion explaining that projected revenues were based on very conservative attendance estimates."
