Tigers win fifth straight, host league tourney next

— Tyrus Morey knew he had to have a good round to keep the Bentonville golf team's win streak alive.

The Tigers' No. 5 golfer delivered.

Morey earned medalist honors with a 4-over par 40 at a soggy Bella Vista Country Club, a scoregood enough to edge the Tigers past visiting Fayetteville on Tuesday.

Bentonville won the match - its fifth straight - 170-172.

Before Morey teed off, he saw teammate Luke Treece - the Tigers' No. 3 - struggle on the first hole. Treece hit a couple tee shots into the woods and had an 11 on the first hole.

"(Morey) knew he had to score today and he comes in and pulls out medalist honors in the five spot," Tigers coach Kent Earlysaid. "That's pretty good. He had the pressure nine holes. I'm proud of him."

Morey had a birdie on No. 8 and collected four pars in his round.

He edged teammate Brik Brauburger and Fayetteville's Sam Hudson andEthan Tisdale, who all shot 41.

The match capped a solidtwo weeks for the Tigers, who posted consistent scores in their last few matches.

They beat Springdale and Heritage before tying Rogers in a three-team match in Fayetteville. The Tigers finished last week with wins against Har-Ber and Rogers.

"We've been playing well," Early said. "But it's a funny game. Hopefully we can get a little bit of rhythm going into Friday."

Tuesday's matches servedas a practice round for the 7A-West Conference Tournament, which will be back at BVCC on Friday for both boys and girls.

Bentonville will host the 18-hole tournament, which has a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The top four teams plus the next seven individuals advance to the state tournament. The girls' state tournament is set for Monday at Fianna Hills Country Club in Fort Smith. The boys tournament is Oct. 6at Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith.

Girls

Fayetteville won the girls' match by 70 strokes. Micah Radler was medalist with a 38, getting a birdie on No. 2 and finishing par-par after giving up three strokes on Nos. 6 and 7. The Lady Bulldogs (124) were without Olivia Lavy, who was resting a sore wrist.

Christina Johnson led Bentonville (194) with a 61.
