— GOLF ASU's Welch wins in sudden-death playoff

Arkansas State's Jennifer Welch won the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial on Tuesday in Springfield, Mo., leading the Red Wolves to a second-place finish.

Welch defeated Bradley's Breanne Neufeld on the second hole of a sudden death playoff for the first title of her college career. She finished with a 219 (72, 71, 76). Arkansas State totaled 912 and led host Missouri State by four strokes going into the final round before the Bears shot a school-record 290 to win by 11 strokes. Central Arkansas tied for third at 921, led by Rebecca Sorensen.

Sorenson tied for third with a 74-75-74-223, followed by Sara Hillman (seventh, 80-72-75-227) and C.J. Bobbitt (tied 17th, 73-80-79-232).

Arkansas State had two players tie for 12th at 230, Cassie Huffer (76-80-74) and Anna Carling (77-78-75).

Arkansas Tech women finish sixth

The Arkansas Tech women's team finished sixth out of seven teams Tuesday in the Bubba Watson Invitational in Pace, Fla., shooting a two-round 701. Florida Southern won with a 611.

Ana Morales led the Golden Suns, tying for 22nd at 87-81-168.

CROSS COUNTRY Arkansas' Boyer, Haile honored

Arkansas' Lane Boyer and Soloman Haile have been chosen the SEC runner and freshman runner of the week, respectively.

Boyer was named runner of the week after finishing runner-up at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday in 23 minutes, 23.05 seconds. Boyer topped his previous best by more than a minute and has the top 8,000-meter time in the SEC this season.

Haile, the freshman runner of the week, was the second Razorback to finish the race, and eighth overall, in 24:01.79. He was the top freshman finisher by 20 seconds.

UA's Allison selected as freshman of week

Arkansas' Alyssa Allison has been named SEC freshman runner of the week after finishing second in the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday in 17 minutes, 30.59 seconds, the top freshman time.

SOCCER Hendrix's Mosley honored for shutouts

Hendrix goalkeeper Allison Mosley has been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference defensive player of the week after two shutouts for the Warriors, 2-0 over Rhodes College and 1-0 in double overtime over Coe College. Mosley stopped a combined 22 shots.

VOLLEYBALL Lyon falls following conference victory

A day after getting its first TranSouth Conference victory of the season, Lyon fell 25-19, 25-19, 25-11 to undefeated Union in Jackson, Tenn., on Tuesday.

Katie Beineke led Lyon (6-12, 1-2) with 12 kills, after totaling 16 in a 22-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12 victory over Martin Methodist in Pulaski, Tenn., on Monday.
