Buddy Rogers enters U.S. Senate race

— Buddy Rogers announced Tuesday he will be a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2010, the candidate's Web site states.

"I am running for the Senate because I believe Arkansans deserve a senator who represents Arkansas values all the time, not just occasionally as re-election nears. With a radical administration in place and an irresponsibleCongress often making the administration's bad ideas worse, Arkansas and the nation can no longer afford our go-along, get-along Sen. Lincoln. : I have a vision of genuine change, change : from all-controlling government that destroys jobs to a limited government that enables the private sector to create jobs, and change to defend, rather than to destroy, the unborn, the agenda and the poor," Rogers said on his Web site, www.

buddyforarkansas.com.

Republican Rogers spent 21 years on active duty in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1996 as a lieutenant colonel.

A financial adviser, Rogers is married to the former Brenda Eden, his wife of 41 years. They have a daughter and a grandson.

Rogers joins a crowded GOP field that includes stateSen. Kim Hendren, R-Gravette, and state Sen. Gilbert Baker, R-Conway.

Seeking a third Senateterm, Lincoln will be opposed in the 2010 Democratic primary by state Sen. Bob Johnson, D-Bigelow.
