Turner to speak on Saturday

— The Friends of Hobbs will welcome Ellen Turner to Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area at 2 p.m. Saturday for her presentation on "Arkansas, the Natural State."

She has contributed with research, education and outreach in Arkansas and across the country, most notably with the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission. She teaches at Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville.

Turner will explore the diversity of the NaturalState. Arkansas boasts six distinct natural divisions, each with its own host of unique plant and animal species. Arkansas is a leader in agriculture, being the No. 1 producer of rice in the United States and No. 4 of all states in the production of timber. Arkansas contains 17.2 million acres of forested land.

This is the first official event of the Friends of Hobbs Guest Lecture Series, to be held monthly at 2 p.m. Saturdays at the new Hobbs Visitor Center. All programs are free and open to the public.
