— FOOTBALL Two UCA players honored

The Southland Conference has named Central Arkansas quarterback Robbie Park its offensive player of the week and linebacker James Lancaster defensive player of the week.

Park completed 18 of 21 passes for 177 yards 2 touchdowns with no interceptions in a 28-7 victory at Western Kentucky.

Lancaster led a defense that held the Hilltoppers to 287 yards of total offense and one touchdown. He had 6 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble and 1 interception.

Bowman honored by Sun Belt Conference

Arkansas State senior libero Heather Bowman has been named Sun Belt Conference defensive player of the week for the second consecutive week. At the UT-Arlington Hilton Invitational last weekend, she had a team-high 94 digs, averaging 6.27 digs per set. She surpassed her career-high for a third time this season with 35 digs against UT-Arlington on Friday.

GOLF Welch, ASU lead in Missouri

Arkansas State sophomore Jennifer Welch leads the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.

Welch fired an even-par 72 to lead Central Arkansas' C.J. Bobbitt and Missouri State's Heather Smith by one stroke.

In the team standings, Arkansas State fired a 301 to lead Central Arkansas by five strokes.

UCA's Rebecca Sorenson had a hole in one on the 147-yard sixth hole in shooting a 74. The ace was the third of her career.

The tournament resumes today with the second and third rounds.
