Northwest Arkansans to talk about property taxes

— State Sen. Kim Hendren's constituents and other northwest Arkansans will soon have a chance to talk about the state's assessment, evaluation and appraisal of property taxes, said Hendren, R-Gravette.

He hopes to see at an upcoming legislative meetingany of his District 9 state Senate constituents and any other northwest Arkansas citizens who want to talk with state officials about the state's property taxes, he said.

"We are going to have a committee meeting in Little Rock. It's the Performance Evaluation and Review Committee, : and they're going to be looking at property taxes - the assessments; whether we're keeping that in line with the (property) values. Most of my constituents, including me, have a real concern about that. Tax day is coming up Oct. 10, shortly," Hendren said.

"They've asked me, because I've been involved in this (issue) for a long, long time, if we want to have anybody from up in northwest Arkansasto come down and give us testimony as to what they think about it. So I need to get the word out: If a person is interested in testifying before that committee down there about what they think about how property taxes are assessed, how they're evaluated, how appraisals are done, and would like to make that trip to Little Rock to testify, I've beenasked to provide that opportunity to people," he said.

He will be at the committee meeting but hopes to see other northwest Arkansans who can talk about the system before the legislative committee and other officials, Hendren said.

The meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 5 in Room 151 in the state Capitol.
