100 YEARS AGO Sept. 20, 1909 To protect the game and fish of Arkansas from extermination at the hands of ruthless "shantyboat hunters" the State Sportsman's Association has appointed Ernest V. Visart of Little Rock as its special agent to hunt up violators of the law and prosecute them. Governor Donaghey has been asked to appoint Mr. Visart a state officer and will do so for it is found that he has the legal authority to do so. The ruthless manner in which game and fish have been slaughtered in Arkansas has been a subject of concern to the true sportsmen of the state for some time.
