ENTERTAINMENT NOTES Taiko Drummers set 2 shows

— The San Jose Taiko Drummers will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Perot Theatre, 219 Main St., Texarkana, and 7:30 p.m. Friday in Riceland Hall at Arkansas State University's Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro.

The Asian-American group incorporates the traditional rhythms of Japanese drumming with African, Balinese, Brazilian, Latin and jazz rhythms with choreography, costumes and theatrical lighting.

The performances are the season openers for the Texarkana Regional Arts & Humanities Council and ASU's Fowler Center Series.

Alumnus' recital

Tenor Mark Brown, a native of Lansing, Mich., who grew up in Searcy and graduated from Harding University, will give a recital with pianist Scott Carrell at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Administration Auditorium at Hardingin Searcy.

Churchillian lecture

Jonathan Sandys, greatgrandson of Winston Churchill, will give a talk called "The Gathering Storm" at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Arkansas State University's Student Union Auditorium, Reng Student Services Center/Student Union, 101 N. Caraway Road, Jonesboro.

Symphony season

The Conway Symphony Orchestra will mark its 25th anniversary season with four concerts, starting with the grand finale to Conway's ArtsFest weekend, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in Reynolds Performance Hall, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

A chorus of more than 100 singers from UCA and Hendrix College will join the orchestra and Music Director Israel Getzov for the "Polovtsian Dances" from Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin. The program will also include theSymphony No. 104, "London," by Franz Joseph Haydn and the "Russian Sailors' Dance" from The Red Poppy by Reinhold Gliere.

All concerts are at 7:30 p.m. in Reynolds Performance Hall with Getzov at the podium.

The orchestra will also offer a children's concert at 2 p.m. March 13 in Reynolds Performance Hall, centering on Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, and its annual "Lights Over the Lake" concert at 7 p.m. July 3 in Conway's Beaverfork Lake Park.

The UCA Public Appearances series includes "An Evening with Marvin Hamlisch & the Conway Symphony Orchestra" at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9.
