Divisions over Afghanistan

As the United States involvement in the war in Vietnam deepened and continued in the late 1960s, the terms "hawks" and "doves" were sometimes applied to supporters and opponents of the war. Those labels oversimplified the views of many, but became convenient ways of characterizing viewpoints.
