Times Editorial : As silence spreads

False alarms are more offensive than some realize

Almost two years ago (specifically, in November 2007) the Fayetteville City Council approved a much-desired ordinance meant to reduce the ridiculous rate of false alarms sounding at homes and businesses throughout this otherwise orderly community. Accidents happen, of course, so the police department hasn't made it a rule to fine first-time offenders. Just so, fines for subsequent offenses begin at $75 but have the potential to be much more.
