Local cross country teams turn their attention to next week’s state championships.

Sweat had hardly dried on the faces of their runners at the 24th annual Mountie Classic here Tuesday when 7AWest coaches were asked how the day’s performances would play at next week’s state cross country championships, scheduled Saturday, Nov. 7, in Mountain Home.

Area coaches said they liked what they saw.

Seven-time defending state champion Rogers Mounties surprised Fayetteville and upstart Bentonville by putting five runners in the top 14, good enough for their 20th team title in this meet.

Bentonville’s boys finished second and positioned themselves for a possible upset of Rogers at the state meet.
