Ruth Pahmiyer, 18, of Lincoln iced a chocolate cake she made while doing a demo in class on Wednesday. Pahmiyer is part of the Northwest Arkansas Community College’s culinary program, which holds classes at the Center for Nonprofits at St. Mary’s in Rogers.

It isn’t about having the best facilities. If it were, Northwest Arkansas Community College’s culinary arts and hospitality program would never have chalked up a win at the ProStart regional cook-off in Little Rock and impressed judges at nationals in San Diego last year.
