Study to re-evaluate Lee Creek damming

Project manager says it will take 8 years

A debate is ongoing over whether Lee Creek at Pine Mountain should be dammed for a public water supply for Crawford County residents, but that decision won’t be made until 2017, an Army Corps of Engineers official said Monday.

The "River Valley Water District" (mostly the City of Van Buren and a number of small towns in southern Crawford County) is forcing us to go through another arduous round of arguments against the Pine Mountain Dam-that-will-never-die.

It's time to put a stake in its heart! The water hustlers and land speculators are never going to have that damn dam because the taxpayers are not going to pay for it! There's too much opposition, and that's very much in evidence at the two public hearings held earlier this week.

Hey Van Buren! Save us all our time and trouble we have to spend fighting your dam fantasy, please. We will stop you, because the numbers of people who love Lee Creek far, far outnumber the few developers and speculators that are running the water district.

Lee Creek will flow freely long after you're gone, and future generations will wonder why we had to fight so hard to save such a special place from destruction.
