JP proposes mining zones for county

Washington County Quorum Court members are mulling over the idea of rezoning quarries, dirt pits and other mining areas as “mining zones.” During Monday’s Quorum Court County Services Committee meeting, an ordinance was brought forth by District 10 Justice of the Peace Jack Norton, asking for mining zones to be added to the county’s list of possible zones. Under this ordinance, Norton also sought to allow the new zones to include areas surrounding the quarry, dirt pit or mining areas for one half mile from the outermost edge of the mining property.
