Deputies: Man attacked wife with ax, hurt son

Posted: October 27, 2009 at 1:53 p.m.

Baxter County deputies arrested a man on charges he attacked his wife with an ax and injured his 9-year-old son when the boy tried to protect his mother.

Investigators said Jason Marshall swung an ax at his wife but missed. Earlier, they said, he struck the woman several times and pushed his son down and then picked him up and slammed his head into a wall. The woman and the boy were taken to a hospital Monday.

Marshall was being held Tuesday on $250,000 bond and faces a number of domestic-battery-related charges. He previously served time in the Department of Correction for aggravated assault on his wife, after a knife attack, and is currently on parole.

A county jail spokesman said she didn’t know if Marshall had a lawyer.
