— Veterans Wall of Honor

The directors of the Veterans Wall of Honor voted recently to add two more walls, or a total of 336 veterans’ names, to the memorial in Bella Vista.

As of October, enough orders had been placed to almost complete one of the two walls. Each wall holds 168 granite name bricks. Phase III should be completely filled by the end of 2009.

Bentonville Kiwanis Club

Robin Alpe Wright, executive director of the Bentonville Public Schools Foundation, spoke at the club’s weekly meeting Tuesday.

The club meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays at the Peel Mansion in Bentonville. Guests are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Sweetest Day raffle

A Sweetest Day Raffle ticket drawing was held Oct. 17 at the Bonefish Grill. Raffle tickets were sold in the community for $5 each for the chance to win a dinner for eight at Carrabba’s; a “food excursion” for eight to the Bonefish Grill; and a dinner for eight to Outback Steakhouse, with the proceeds benefiting the Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County.

The winners were AJ Shirey, Mary Dickie and Karen Buchanan. The event raised nearly $3,000 for the center.

Tearle Byers of Bonefish Grille brought Sweetest Day to northwest Arkansas in 2006. Along with Byers and the three restaurants, the yearly fundraiser event for the Children’s Advocacy Center is sponsored by Wal-Mart, Kraft, Kimberly-Clark, the Asa Hutchinson Law Group and Parachuting Penguins.

Bella Vista Fly Tyers Club

The club will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista. Flip Putthoff will speak about the Buffalo River.

Deihl Toastmasters

The Toastmasters will offer special presentations to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the Toastmasters organization. The club meets at 7 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Village Insurance Community Room, 2838 Bella Vista Way in Bella Vista. The public is invited to visit a meeting and learn more about what Toastmasters has to offer.

The club meets for breakfast at 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Concordia on the Hill.

In October, the club hosted a dinner at the Bella Vista Country Club for the governor of District 6110, A.C. Moncrief and his wife, Doris.

The club handled the parking for the recently completed Bella Vista Arts and Crafts Festival. Members are also involved in the upcoming Sparkles Campaign and the Bella Vista Festival of Trees and will serve food at the second annual Christmas Carnival. Every Tuesday evening, a group of Rotarians works at the AARP Recycling Center in Bella Vista.

The chapter will celebrate Halloween by attending the Peel House’s Ghost Walk on Thursday. Led by a “grieving widow,” members and spouses will tour the BentonvilleCemetery, hearing stories aboutVictorian mourning and burial customs.

Following the cemetery walk, participants can take a tour of the historic Peel House, followed by a spaghetti dinner. Meet at the cemetery in the 400 block of Southwest F Street between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., as the tour will begin at 6 p.m.

Calico Cut-Ups Quilt Guild

The guild will meet at 1 p.m. Monday.The program“Story Quilts” will be given by Kay Gaudian. The vendor will be Sew a Stitch from Bentonville.

Following the program, the guild will hold a brief business meeting and conclude with a show-and-tell. Visitors are welcome.

Bella Vista Garden Club

The club’s meeting Wednesday will feature Janice Kennedy showing how to make Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations and sedum wreaths using natural elements.

The meeting will be at 1 p.m. at United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Road in Bella Vista. Refreshments will be served, and all are welcome. Players will provide their own cards and game materials, and many door prizes will be given out. An assortment of light refreshments, coffee, tea and water will be provided.

Bentonville Garden Club

The Bentonville Garden Club hosted the 2009 Arkansas Garden Club Fall District Meeting. Elaine Kerr, Bentonville club president, introduced Mayor Bob McClasin, who welcomed almost 100 Arkansas club members. Kerr also introduced Phyllis Byrum, right, Arkansas Garden Club president, and Scott Eccleston, Crystal Bridges landscape manager, who presented a program on the progress of the museum. Kerr gave special recognition to meeting chairwoman Joan Clifford and members of the Bella Vista and Rogers clubs and the Floralia Arranger’s Guild, who assisted with the meeting, conducted by Susan Johnson, district director. The State Garden Club Convention will be held April 12-13 at Harding University in Searcy.

Garden Club of Rogers

The club’s November meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 4. The cost of the meal will be $8.25 per person, including tip, and reservations are required.

The club will meet at a new location to celebrate the group’s 80th-birthday party: the Center for Nonprofits at St. Mary’s, 1200 W. Walnut St. in Rogers. Take the elevator to the basement level, go to the end of a long hall and turn right into the last hall and go into the meeting room.

The program will be Arkansas Landscape History, by speaker Tom Dillard. The program is about gardening on the frontier and the arrival of designed landscapes during the Victorian era.

The horticulture committee will present unusual plant types throughout the yearand offer them as door prizes.

Ladies Day Out

The group will visit the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in downtown Springdale on Nov. 17. Participants will have lunch at The Crumpet Tea Room and Restaurant, inside the Interiors Galleria.
